Among the scientists who have significantly advanced these questions in India, <strong>Prof. Amitabh Joshi<\/strong> stands out for his pioneering contributions to experimental evolution, population biology, and the conceptual foundations of evolutionary theory.<\/p><p>Over a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, Prof. Joshi has combined long-term experimental studies using <em>Drosophila<\/em> with theoretical modelling and philosophical inquiry to deepen our understanding of natural selection, adaptation, population dynamics, and Darwinian fitness. His work is marked not only by scientific rigor but also by a willingness to question accepted ideas and explore the conceptual underpinnings of evolutionary biology.<\/p><p>Equally remarkable is his commitment to curiosity-driven research and mentorship. After Std. X, we had to choose between biology and mathematics, which I thought was most unfortunate. I finally felt biology was a bit more interesting and opted for biology. A major influence was Dr. Ajaya Baboo, perhaps the best teacher I had in school, who taught us both biology and chemistry. At that point, I was quite sure that I would eventually opt for higher studies and would like to become an academician, but I had no great focused interest in any specific subdiscipline. I was not interested in pursuing medicine as an option, so after school I joined BSc (Hons.) in Botany at Hindu College, Delhi University. During my second year of under graduation, I had my first exposure to genetics and really liked it, particularly because there was a lot to understand conceptually as opposed to a lot of facts to be memorized. By the time I finished my BSc, I wanted to study genetics further and was also determined not to study botany further as the thought of doing the same things in more detail was not very appealing.<\/p><p>The problem was that there were hardly any M.Sc. programmes in genetics, outside the Agricultural Universities, and those were typically plant breeding and genetics programmes which were not so interesting to me as I was more interested in basic rather than applied science. There was a one-year-old M.Sc. programme in genetics at the South Campus on Delhi University, but there were only four seats so I was not sure I would get admission. At that point, I had decided that if I didn\u2019t get admission there, I would switch out of science and do a master\u2019s degree in either philosophy or Urdu literature.<\/p><p>As it happened, I got into MSc genetics and thus remained in science. In our first year of MSc, we had a course on population and quantitative genetics, magnificently taught by Prof. C. R. Babu of the Botany Department at Delhi University. It was this course that got me interested in evolution more broadly, and population and quantitative genetics in particular. Prior to that, evolution in our curricula had been restricted mostly to the historical record of life-forms, but this course introduced us to possible mechanisms of evolutionary change. Another influence at that time was a very eye-opening (for me) book by John N. Thompson: \u2018Interaction and Coevolution\u2019 that introduced me to how a lot of ecological phenomena could be thought of in evolutionary terms.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ac7229e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ac7229e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Academic Journey \u2013 Growing as a Researcher<\/strong><\/p><p><em>Your academic journey has taken you through several stages of learning, research, and leadership. What were some defining experiences that shaped you as an evolutionary biologist?<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0e9fc06 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0e9fc06\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The academic journey is, by and large, a gradual and cumulating one and hence there are not really many defining experiences as such. One big shift that does happen is that at some point during one\u2019s PhD, one begins to make a transition from being a student, or consumer of knowledge, to becoming a researcher, or producer of new knowledge. In my case, this happened about three years into my PhD, when I had already been doing experiments of a multi-generational kind, collecting data every generation, but also got interested in a couple of theoretical questions on the side. Thus, I ended up trying to develop models of evolutionary phenomena \u2013 like the evolution of extreme ecological specialization, and also the evolutionary dynamics of populations that could reproduce both sexually and asexually \u2013 and analyzing them both mathematically, and through simulations.<\/p><p>These questions had nothing to do with my PhD work and arose out of my own curiosity sparked by things I read or heard about in talks I attended. Grappling with those problems on my own, picking up needed skills like coding, and thinking deeply and consistently for months about how to reconceptualize certain issues were, to my mind, the period when I made the transition to becoming a researcher. And, in both cases, the work ended up resolving some long- standing debates in the field, with very distinguished scientists involved in them, and therefore it was a very reassuring confidence boost as well.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-840bb32 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"840bb32\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Evolutionary Biology \u2013 A Way of Thinking<\/strong><\/p><p><em>Evolutionary biology seeks to explain the diversity and interconnectedness of life on Earth. What excites you most about this field, and why do you think evolutionary thinking remains fundamental to understanding the living world?<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cc8c896 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cc8c896\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Biology, broadly, tries to answer two very different types of questions, leading to two very different kinds of biology. Sub-organismal biology tries to explain how living things are \u2018alive\u2019. This kind of biology leans a bit more on the reductionist side and tries to explain the basic properties that allow cells and organisms to exhibit characteristics of being alive primarily at the level of molecules found in living things.<\/p><p>Evolutionary biology in its most expansive sense tries to explain the diversity, relatedness and adaptedness of life forms, to borrow the words of Prof. Michael Rose. This is relatively more holistic and focuses more at the organismal or populational level of biological organization, and, paraphrasing Yeats, follows the spirit of \u201cbiology is that which is lost in the reduction to chemistry and physics\u201d. Without evolution, biology would just be a morass of facts with no framework within which to understand and interpret them, sort of like chemistry before the Periodic Table and atomic theory.<\/p><p><strong>What excites me about evolution is exactly the sentiment expressed by the Nobel laureate Peter Medawar, a path-breaking immunologist: \u201cFor a biologist, the alternative to thinking in evolutionary terms is not to think at all!\u201d<\/strong>. Evolution, to me, is the grandest non-linear dynamic process of them all and, moreover, one that has shaped and continues to shape the world we live in.<\/p><p><strong>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000080;\">Quote- \u201cFor a biologist, the alternative to thinking in evolutionary terms is not to think at all!\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-db55360 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"db55360\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Research Focus \u2013 Questions That Matter<\/strong><\/p><p><em>Could you tell us about the key questions or problems your research seeks to address, and why they are important for advancing our understanding of evolution, biodiversity, or adaptation?<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a585512 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a585512\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Over about four decades, my research has focused on many different specific problems but with a common underlying interest in how we conceptualize core ideas in evolution like selection, sexual selection and sexual conflict, Darwinian fitness, and competition. I have also been interested in questions in population dynamics i.e. trying to understand how the number of individuals in a population changes over time and the factors that determine the stability or instability of those dynamics in both spatially structured and unstructured populations.<\/p><p>My experimental work is exclusively done using laboratory populations of fruit flies of the genus <em>Drosophila<\/em>. These are typically multi-generation studies, often termed Experimental Evolution. I also do theoretical work involving both analytical models and simulation studies, and also have a great interest in historical and philosophical aspects of studies in evolution and heredity. This work has resulted in a better understanding of the involvement of heredity in natural selection, better indices of the ecological and evolutionary outcomes of larval versus adult crowding, insights into male-female coevolution and how natural and sexual selection can interact to produce incipient speciation, the evolution of population stability due to adaptations to crowding, and the interaction of dispersal rates and local dynamics in mediating metapopulation stability, just to list a few. Six of the seven experimental studies on the evolution of population stability ever done are from our lab at JNCASR, Bengaluru.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cf2fbae elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cf2fbae\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Interdisciplinary Approach \u2013 Thinking Across Disciplines<\/strong><\/p><p><em>How have interdisciplinary collaborations influenced your work and broadened your scientific perspective?<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-937f29c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"937f29c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>I do not typically collaborate, and prefer to be interdisciplinary in my own thinking and research. If I feel I need a new skill to address a question of interest, I prefer to learn that skill and apply it rather than trying to collaborate with someone trained in that skill.<\/p><p>The one collaboration I am part of is the \u2018Foundations of Genetics and Evolution Group\u2019 (FOGEG: <a href=\"https:\/\/indiadst.wordpress.com\/2017\/04\/08\/indian-contribution-to-debates-on-the-conceptual-foundations-of-evolutionary-biology\/\">Article 1<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/dst.gov.in\/indian-biologists-put-forward-novel-refinements-fundamental-conceptual-principles-evolutionary\">Article -2<\/a>), together with my colleague Prof. T.N.C. Vidya, and two former students, Profs. Sutirth Dey (IISER Pune) and N.G. Prasad (IISER Mohali). This is an informal collaboration between us, and sometimes some of our PhD students, that is neither mandated nor funded by anyone: we do it because we enjoy working together on fundamental conceptual issues in core evolutionary theory. In this collaboration, we tackle issues like what exactly is Darwinian fitness, is it better to include heredity into the concept of natural selection, what exactly is heritability and is it a single concept, and can we develop a purely phenotypic theory of selection that would be agnostic to hereditary mechanisms.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7b03c6c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7b03c6c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Breakthrough \u2013 Lessons from Curiosity<\/strong><\/p><p><em>Scientific discoveries often emerge from unexpected observations, long-term investigations, or novel approaches. Can you share a particularly memorable finding, breakthrough, or field experience from your research career that significantly shaped your understanding of evolution? <\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cf25ef8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cf25ef8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Sometimes, very interesting scientific discoveries are sparked off by a strange series of chance events. When I was a PhD student, at one point a faculty member joined our department and offered a new course on \u2018Plant-Microbe Interactions\u2019. At that point, I had already done (more than) all the required courses, and also passed my Preliminary Exam, advancing to PhD candidature. As such, there was no need for me to take any courses, and the topic of this course had nothing to do with my PhD work which was on whether competing species could coevolve, contrary to the common view at the time that they would not. I nevertheless decided to take the course, thinking I would be exposed to a new area I did not know much about.<\/p><p>The course itself was an advanced graduate seminar which meant that students would study research papers on a theme, make a presentation about those papers, and eventually write a term paper on that theme. One of the themes that I found quite interesting was regarding the so-called two-fold cost of sex, the widespread expectation that sexual mothers would have half the Darwinian fitness of asexual mothers. The reason this theme found its way tangentially into the course was that one explanation for how sexual mothers could nullify the cost was by producing genetically diverse offspring that would therefore be less susceptible to being wiped out by a pathogen, compared to identical asexual offspring.<\/p><p>I began to read up papers on the cost of sex, and got interested in that topic itself rather than how pathogen pressure could help offset it. I approached the instructor and asked him if I could do my presentation and term paper on the cost of sex as an evolutionary problem rather than the plant-microbe interaction angle, and as original research rather than a review paper, and he very kindly agreed. As I continued to read more about the cost of sex, I learnt that there were two main explanations provided: a) it was the cost of investing in male function in sexuals, because asexuals could just invest in producing offspring without having to produce males too, and b) it was the cost of genome dilution because a sexual mother is related to her offspring by a half, whereas an asexual mother is related to her offspring by a factor of one. The former idea was championed by John Maynard Smith, and the latter by George Williams, both towering figures in mid-twentieth century evolutionary biology. At some point it struck me that both explanations made opposing implicit assumptions: the male investment models assumed that asexuals produced as many male gametes as sexuals, whereas the genome dilution models assumed that asexuals produced no male gametes.<\/p><p>I also recalled from my BSc days, studying botany, that many plant species had individuals that reproduced asexually in their female role but did produce male gametes (pollen) as well, though less in quantity and fertility than the pollen produced by their sexual counterparts. To cut a long story short, by developing a genetic model of a population of hermaphrodites polymorphic for female reproductive mode that incorporated male gamete production by asexuals in varying degrees, I was able to reconcile these two explanations and settle an almost twenty-year old debate in the field. It turned out that when male gamete production of asexuals is neither zero, nor equal to sexuals, both the cost of male function and genome dilution are non-zero. Only at the two extremes does one or the other cost disappear, leading to the debate as to which one was the cost of sex. This work eventually resulted in two papers in the <em>Journal of Theoretical Biology<\/em>. The key to resolving the issue was to treat male gamete production and fertility of asexuals as variables, rather than assuming it to be 0 or 1. One lesson I learnt from this experience was the importance of sometimes stepping back and looking at problems from a broader perspective. Another lesson was that it was entirely possible for a young graduate student, half-way through his PhD, to contribute conceptually to his field and resolve a confusion that some of the great minds in the field had been fruitlessly arguing about for twenty years. This realization was a massive confidence boost for me at the time when I was making the transition from student to researcher. It also convinced me that we should not shy away from grappling with fundamental conceptual questions at the core of our discipline.<\/p><p>A further lesson came some twenty-five years later, while working together with my FOGEG colleagues on how to understand fitness and selection. During the cost of sex work, I had run into difficulties analyzing the fitness of asexuals and sexuals by standard population genetic techniques and had come up with a novel way of doing it, that focused on the fidelity of transmission of those two phenotypes to offspring under sexual and asexual modes of reproduction.\u00a0 At that time, I thought of it more as a cute conceptual innovation to side-step a technical problem. Twenty-five years later, I realized it was a much more generally applicable approach that helps understand the role of heredity, gene-based or otherwise, in mediating the effects of natural selection.<\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Quote &#8211; \u201cWe should not shy away from grappling with fundamental conceptual questions at the core of our discipline.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7bb0690 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7bb0690\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Research Philosophy \u2013 Embracing the Process<\/strong><\/p><p><em>Research and academic careers often involve challenges and setbacks. What obstacles have you encountered in your journey, and what advice would you offer to students and young researchers facing similar challenges?<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-71ecbd5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"71ecbd5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>I don\u2019t really think in terms of challenges and setbacks. I enjoy doing the research I am engaged in at any time, as it is strongly curiosity driven. Sometimes things work smoothly, sometimes you spend years grappling with a problem before solving it. To me, that is just part of how science is as an activity. Since I do not view science as a \u201ccareer\u201d, the setback\/challenge vocabulary does not resonate with me. The greatest pleasure of working with them is to be able to see them as they blossom from being slightly diffident students to becoming confident young researchers who have the courage and ability to come up with their own ideas, sometimes challenging accepted views in their field. Witnessing that transformation is the greatest privilege and pleasure of being in academics.<\/p><p>I encourage students to develop a) precision and clarity in thought and exposition, b) an appreciation for the history and philosophy of our discipline (evolution and heredity), c) an understanding of the structure of scientific problems as being conceptual in addition to being factual, and d) a feel for how to formulate meaningful scientific questions rather than just \u2018interesting\u2019 ones.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-caacbef elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"caacbef\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>AI in Science \u2013 Scholarship and Caution<\/strong><\/p><p><em>Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming research, education, and innovation. How do you see AI influencing your field, and what opportunities and challenges do you foresee for the future of STEM?<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-125cc35 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"125cc35\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>I don\u2019t know much about AI and I don\u2019t think about it or use it much, so I have little to say in response to this question. I do fear that if we start using AI too much in science, we will destroy one of the foundations of science i.e. scholarship. I would never want a student of mine, for example, to use AI to write a literature review, or to analyse a data set.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0e14b92 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0e14b92\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Science Communication \u2013 Connecting with Society<\/strong><\/p><p><em>Science communication has become increasingly important in bridging the gap between research and society. What role do you think scientists and STEM professionals should play in communicating their work to the public, policymakers, and other stakeholders? <\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-47651c2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"47651c2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>I think it\u2019s important for scientists to also be science communicators. If one is a good teacher, one will likely be an effective science communicator. It is just important to be able to step into a non-technical person\u2019s shoes and frame the communication accordingly. Unfortunately, many good scientists are not necessarily good teachers and, moreover, many have a tendency to \u2018talk down\u2019 to, and be patronizing towards a non-scientist audience. Such attitudes are counterproductive in terms of effective science communication. It is also important not to insult one\u2019s audience by assuming that the science needs to be \u2018dumbed down\u2019. What is needed is to avoid technical jargon, and explain backgrounds properly instead of assuming everyone will know basic concepts, without \u2018dumbing down\u2019 the content. We also need to do a better job of communicating to society that the prime motivator of much scientific work is actually curiosity, not necessarily practical benefit, although such benefits often arise as side-effects. Society tends to view science pragmatically as application: dams, satellites, missiles, vaccines etc. Most good scientists, on the other hand, view science the way a classical musician views music.<\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Quote &#8211; \u201cMost good scientists view science the way a classical musician views music.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cb61339 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cb61339\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Diversity and Inclusion \u2013 Beyond Representation<\/strong><\/p><p><em>What progress have you observed in promoting diversity and inclusion within STEM, and what more can institutions and society do to foster broader participation and leadership?<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f441bee elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f441bee\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>I think many steps are already being taken, at least at the input levels, but sometimes the actions are more performative than real. We need to encourage sincere engagement with these principles, as opposed to just \u2018ticking the right boxes\u2019 (that is unfortunately true of much in today\u2019s science and beyond). I also think we need to broaden the scope of how (on what axes) we think about diversity and inclusion. In India, for example, we need to consider not just the obvious axes like gender, religion and caste, but also pay more attention to relatively neglected axes like age, geographical region, socio-economic background, rural versus urban, metro versus small town, and also sub-disciplines within a broad discipline. STEM people also need to stop \u2018looking down\u2019 at arts, humanities and social sciences.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9f72be3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9f72be3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Future Directions<\/strong><\/p><p><em>What are the most exciting unanswered questions in evolutionary biology today?<\/em> <em>What are the most exciting unanswered questions in evolutionary biology today, and what discoveries or advances would you like to see the next generation of evolutionary biologists achieve?<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-446ba4d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"446ba4d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In evolutionary biology, broadly, we can distinguish between microevolutionary change and macroevolutionary change. The former refers to changes in evolutionary time that happen within a species, the latter to changes above species level, for example to evolution of a new body plan, or of higher taxa. Microevolutionary dynamics are relatively better understood than macroevolutionary change is, at least in terms of the evolutionary consequences of known fitness differences among types. However, it would be interesting to see the development of a phenotypic theory of microevolutionary change that is agnostic to mode of inheritance. In the macroevolutionary realm, we need better biological understanding of the kinds of changes that underlie macroevolutionary variations, and how they are inherited. Once that is better known, we would like to see further development of a proper theory of macroevolutionary change. It would also be very interesting to conceptually bridge microevolutionary and macroevolutionary changes via a common conceptual framework.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-16c93ab3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"16c93ab3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\"
